Mario Haberfeld

Son of a lover of races, I was born on January 25, 1976, with the same passion. My first sport was tennis, but the constant presence in the pits of Nelson Piquet, an old friend of the family, made the karts gain my preference quickly. In that specialty, I was a Pan-American champion in 1992 and champion of São Paulo in 1993. Then came the cars and after a few races in Brazilian Formula Ford, I decided to race in the English version of the category in 1995, moving to Cambridge in England. It was a difficult period, but also a great personal and professional growth. The next stage was the Formula Renault in 1996 and then the English Formula 3 in 1997 and 1998, the most important and competitive F1 access category. Flying to the team of Jackie Stewart, one of my great idols, I consecrated champion in 1998 even being to 54 points of the leader until the half of the championship At that time I counted on the fundamental help of engineer Andy Miller, a close friend. In 1999 I joined the F-3000 as a McLaren contractor who at that time had a junior team in the category. In the following years I piloted for the Fortec teams in 2000, Super Nova in 2001 and Belgian Astromega in 2002 where I got my best results. The seventh place at the end of the championship and the few appearances on the podium showed that the result did not translate into my great season. An important moment that year was my first podium on the F-3000, an unforgettable second place finish in Interlagos.
